Past Events

(+) Perspective Series

Our (+) Perspective Series are fun, family-centered events held at The Health Museum where you can spend an afternoon with your family, while also meeting others who are similarly affected.  The aim of these 2-hour hands-on sessions is to give children and teens living with skin conditions, and their family and friends, a new way to look at things.  Don’t worry- you won’t need to bear your heart and soul to anyone, and we are not going to sit around and sing kumbaya.  Instead, we use therapeutic art activities, including painting, drawing, singing, dancing, writing, and photography, that are introduced by our talented, artistic guest speakers who guide us through the activities. Through these sessions, we hope to improve our abilities to change our perspectives and develop positive coping skills so we can all face the world with confidence knowing we were Made A Masterpiece!

Our guest artists, Rick Guidotti and Lee Beckmann, gave us the opportunity to come together and discuss how photography and videography can be used to see things in a new perspective.

Mitch Pengra was our guest artist, and we had the opportunity to learn how to use music so we can change our perspective!

Sarah Fisher, a local Houston artist, joined us as our guest artist, and we had the opportunity to use painting as a way to see things in a new perspective.

Camp Dermadillo

Camp Dermadillo is a one-day family camp experience.  It is held each Spring at Camp For All that is a barrier-free campsite about 1hour NW of Houston.  It is not only a fun-filled day, but it also helps build resilience, self-confidence, and a positive can-do attitude through empowering individual and group activities designed specifically for our Community for Those with Skin Conditions.  It is a great opportunity to connect with others who truly understand in a safe, supportive environment where you can meet-up with old friends and make new ones.  Our campers leave with lifelong memories and a keepsake coloring book and journal so they can continue to build upon this life-changing experience.

Masterpiece Maker Fundraisers

Our Masterpiece Makers are our friends and champions who have accepted our invitation to use their time, talents, and treasures to make the world a better place for children who are suffering silently with the social, emotional, and spiritual aspects of living with a skin disease in a world that is focused on external appearances.  They have joined us in our mission to empower these children to learn to love the skin they are in and face the world with confidence.

Our Masterpiece Makers help fund experiences like our (+) Perspectives Series where we use therapeutic arts to give children and teens living with skin conditions, a new way to look at things, and also our Camp Dermadillo family camp experience where they are invited to grow and develop a can-do attitude in a fun, safe space surrounded by a community that loves and supports them.  There are opportunities throughout the year for our Masterpiece Makers to join us in our vision of a world where we are all seen as the masterpieces we were created to be, but it is at our Masterpiece Maker Fundraising events where we come together to celebrate that vision together with a focus on raising funds to continue our important work.

Drs. Douglas and Alanna Bree welcomed friends and neighbors into their home for a Friendsgiving celebration to benefit Made A Masterpiece. The event featured a delicious meal experience catered by Avila Experiences, as well as a bourbon and wine tasting. There was also a raffle and live painting with Rebekah Molander. The event was fully underwritten by Drs. Bree so that every dollar of the $6,900 raised that evening could directly benefit the children who we serve.

We had a great time at our dinner and auction honoring Dr. John Cangelosi as our Transformational Donor of the Year. The sold out event raised $11,777 for our community with skin conditions.
