Why It Matters

One in five children is impacted by a skin condition or birthmark, and that impact is much more than skin deep. Research has resoundingly demonstrated that there are social, emotional, developmental, and psychological challenges that occur when a child is learning to cope and develop with visibly different skin in a world that is obsessed with physical appearances.

To help create the world we envision, we must help others see more clearly. That is the goal of our traveling exhibition entitled, "Look At Me. What Do You See? - This Is Me. Let Me Help You See!"  When someone looks at a person with a skin condition, that is all they often see- what is on the surface.  But there is much more than what is skin deep.

The exhibition gives a voice to children, teens, and young adults, as well as their families, who have powerful stories to share about the impacts of living with a skin disease.  We all have much to learn from their bravery and resilience that will bring a fresh perspective and help us all love the skin we are in.

Our Mini Exhibit

Our mini exhibit is a starting point for changing the conversation around skin disease.  It invites visitors to look deeper—to discover the beauty, strength, and individuality in every person. Through portraits and original artwork, Made A Masterpiece encourages us to rethink assumptions, reduce stigma, and celebrate the unique stories written in our skin.

It first premiered in NYC at the Positive Exposure Gallery.

Then, it will be headed to the Texas Medical Center and will be on display in TMC3 Helix Hall through July 30th.

The Start of Something BIG

Our mini exhibit is just the starting point for something much BIGGER. Because we all deserve to face the world with confidence, our aim is to add as many people to the conversation as possible through interactive education utilizing our multimedia Magic Wall that is like nothing you have ever seen before.  Our goal is to spread awareness about skin conditions and birthmarks throughout the US with this collaborative traveling exhibition that is scheduled to premiere at The Health Museum in the Fall of 2026.  It will then travel to museums, hospitals, educational institutions, and galleries throughout the USA over 5 years, spending an average of 3-4 months at each site. While at the sites, there will be opportunities for educational programs with schools, clubs, community groups, and healthcare providers to provide a space for engaging activities and deeper dialogue.

Inside the Exhibition

The Magic Wall Experience: Created by Made A Masterpiece and Brought to Life by Back & Rosta

The Magic Wall by Back & Rosta is a captivating, interactive video wall that transforms any public space into an immersive, educational environment. As a museum-grade touchscreen display, it functions both as a bold exhibition platform and an intuitive digital search tool. Uniquely designed to serve large groups simultaneously, the Magic Wall fosters meaningful engagement through movement, touch, and choice.

At the heart of this experience is Made A Masterpiece, who will use art, storytelling, and technology to elevate understanding of skin conditions and inspire self-acceptance. Through rich digital content, the Magic Wall becomes a powerful tool to:

  • Raise awareness about skin disease

  • Provide overviews of specific skin conditions

  • Demystify what skin disease is—and what it isn’t

  • Educate about the body’s largest organ: the skin

  • Dispel unconscious biases toward visible differences

  • Reduce stigma and misunderstanding around birthmarks and dermatological conditions

  • Encourage compassionate, informed interaction

  • Empower all individuals to love the skin they’re in

Using this patented Magic Wall software, Made a Masterpiece will bridge the gap between information and interaction focused on all facets of our body's largest organ, the skin, and what is often unseen and more than skin deep. Visitors can browse digital stories, explore artwork, watch videos, and access additional resources via QR codes—directly from their mobile devices.  The functionality of this interactive communication tool is endless.  See renderings and short clip of the vision.

MEET THE ARTISTS OF THE
MASTERPIECE COLLECTIVE

The exhibition is a massive collaborative effort among many talented artists. Our Masterpiece Friends' photographs are captured by Rick Guidotti of Positive Exposure, along with their heartfelt and eye-opening stories, as recorded and shared by Lee Beckmann of Beckmann Media.

The exhibition will showcase the exceptional talents of 14 Houston-based artists who have produced original paintings inspired by our Masterpiece Poem.

Our Collective also includes 2 talented Houston-based musicians who have produced original music that speaks to the heart of our mission.

Bringing Vision to Life

We are grateful to have the resounding support from our dermatology community, including 32 patient advocacy organizations, as well as the Coalition of Skin Diseases (CSD) and the International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (GlobalSkin).  We also have the endorsement of 2 statewide professional dermatology organizations, in addition to the Dermatology Nurses Association (DNA), the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD).

We Can't Do It Without YOU

While we have BIG plans as a small but mighty organization, we need your support to make this vision a reality.

Made A Masterpiece is an official 501c3 nonprofit organization in the US (EIN #46-5656111), and donations are tax-deductible.

We are the only organization in the US exclusively dedicated to providing social and emotional support for children with skin conditions and birthmarks of all types.

Because we are a fully volunteer-led organization with no paid staff and no physical location to fund, all donations to this campaign will go 100% to bringing this exhibition to life.

Friends & Major Donors

Every single dollar that is donated makes a difference.  When we come together in ways that really matter, we are adding to our collective power to create change.  Your donation not only helps the 1 in 4 children living with skin disease, it also helps make the world a better place for all of us.

If you are blessed to be able to give as a Major Donor which starts with a giving level of $1,000, we would love to recognize your generosity within the exhibition and on our donor wall.

Corporate Sponsorships

If your business, corporation, or organization wants to join us in shaping the conversation around skin disease, we invite you to join us as a Corporate Sponsor.  Your sponsorship will highlight your support of the dermatology community and help make the world a better place for all those who are living with a skin condition or birthmark.

Your generous support will also be recognized accordingly as our exhibition travels throughout the US over the next 5 years after its premiere in The Health Museum in the Fall of 2026.

Dream to Action

This exhibition is the brainchild of Dr. Alanna Bree, the Founder of Made A Masterpiece.  As a pediatric dermatologist for 20 years, she witnessed how deeply children with skin conditions struggle — socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Determined to change this, she founded Made a Masterpiece. At the first Love The Skin You Are In event in 2016, she invited Rick Guidotti of Positive Exposure as the guest speaker. Their friendship has since led to powerful collaborations, including a photographic exhibition at The Health Museum in Houston, the FRAME film I Was Made A Masterpiece used to train future physicians, and a one-of-a-kind Fashion Show & Tell at Rick’s NYC gallery opening, which received national coverage on CBS This Morning.  When their paths recently crossed again, Rick encouraged Dr, Bree to dream up a new collaboration, eager to support Made A Masterpiece and Dr. Bree’s vision. This project is that dream—now coming to life with the help of those committed to making the world better for people living with skin disease.

Our Masterpiece Exhibition is set to launch in The Health Museum in Houston, TX, in September 2026.  It will travel to museums, hospitals, educational institutions, and galleries throughout the USA over 5 years, spending an average of 3-4 months at each site. While at the sites, there will be opportunities for educational activations with schools, clubs, community groups, and healthcare providers to provide a space for engaging activities and deeper dialogue.
