During my time as the Masterpiece Fellow, I was able to help spread awareness about loving the skin you’re in by receiving both a District and Mayoral Proclamation from the city of Houston declaring February 15th as Love the Skin You’re In Day. It was incredibly rewarding to achieve this milestone just one year after publishing Dr. Bree and my children’s book, “Loving the Skin You’re In at Camp Dermadillo.”

I also had the opportunity to attend the PeDRA Conference in Minneapolis with Dr. Bree, where I continued advocating for children with skin conditions through an oral and poster presentation on scarring alopecia. Throughout the year, I created educational social media videos about camp experiences and helped raise awareness during recognition weeks for various skin conditions.

As I begin my pediatrics residency at UT Southwestern, I look back on this year with great fondness and gratitude. This experience helped me grow both personally and professionally, but most importantly, I am deeply appreciative of finding not only an incredible mentor, but also a true friend in Dr. Bree.

I look forward to continuing to support children with skin conditions and helping spread the message to love the skin we’re in.
